Stone
Stone replacement of wood mulch benefits are:
- Stone is permanent
- Reduces the possibility of weed growth
- Less maintenance for several years, which reduces annual cost and work
- Does not support fungus or mushroom growth
Concerns to consider are:
- Stone tends to dry the soil out due to holding heat long after the sun sets. This is the opposite effect of wood mulch.
- Stone over time will get dirty from leaves, lawn mowing, and airborne particulates. Removal and disposal after years of use may be work you do not want
- Stone will not add organic matter to your soil for your plants.
